Potts Point residents fight to keep Kings Cross out

MACLEAY St residents concerned about the “seepage of Kings Cross into Potts Point” have voiced their opposition to an increase in the space of a development that will turn The White House at 55 Macleay St into a boutique hotel and restaurant.

The original development was approved in 2010, but the applicant has lodged an amendment to the DA which would increase the floor space by 10 per cent.

So far Sydney Council has received 73 objections to the development.

The increase in space is for toilets and storage, but residents are concerned that the development keeps changing, and that there’s nothing to stop it one day turning into a bar.

“Potts Point residents are concerned about clustering, morphing and the seepage of Kings Cross into Potts Point,” Macleay St resident Helen Crossing said.

Sydney Council’s Director of Planning Graham Jahn said that it would be possible for the occupier of the building to apply to have the use of the storage space changed in the future, but it would have to come before council.

The restaurant will be allowed to operate between the hours of 7am to 10.30pm Monday to Sunday, with a maximum of 96 persons.
